Direct UK insurance companies to pay out to claimants affected by Coronavirus
Direct insurance companies to retrospectively recognise coronavirus and covid-19 as Notified Diseases and Specified Illnesses with immediate effect; and to pay out sufficient funds to mitigate losses to claimants with business-interruption cover that have been forced to close by the UK government
The costs to individuals, families, businesses small, medium and large, and to local councils and The Treasury, are going to be massive, will take years to recover from, and will be borne by every citizen of the UK, whether directly or indirectly.
Meanwhile, UK insurance companies, worth over £2 trillion, and with assets in excess of £500 billion, are refusing to pay out to claimants because coronavirus and covid-19 are - unsurprisingly as they are new - not specifically named on their policies.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The decision to pay out under a policy is one for individual insurance companies, not the UK Government or Parliament.
If you are unhappy with the decision of your insurer you should complain directly to them.
If you are unsatisfied with how an insurer responds to your complaint you may wish to contact the financial ombudsman: www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/businesses/complaints-deal/insurance
