Grant an MOT amnesty for private cars due to renew MOTs during the CoVid crisis.
Allow private vehicles with a current MOT to extend its validity over the period of the current crisis and social distancing exercise, in the same manner as has already been granted to HGV and PSV vehicles. Private vehicles are, potentially, less dangerous than those already exempted.
A trip to get an MOT done is contrary to all of the reasons behind the current lock down. It risks cross infection from owner to garage staff and vice versa. Owners are obliged to either walk to and from the testing station (two walks, as opposed to the 'one exercise period' currenty allowed ) or wander outside for an hour, risking contact with others. Also the issue of qualified MOT testers already self-isolating, increasing the risk of those still working getting and passing on infections.
