Petition Action

Give the ability to driving instructors to carry out driving tests with cameras

Petition Details

Instructors should carry out driving tests with cameras in the car. One of the cameras should focus on both the instructor and the candidate, just to rule out all misbehavior. Videos should be sent to the DVSA. Examiners could watch the videos safely from home and determine the result.

Additional Information

The driving test is suspended for 3 months.
The waiting time was already 8 weeks before the suspension.
If we add the 3 months to that, then the waiting time in June will be 20 weeks at least. So if a pupil want to book a driving test in June he/she will get a test date for November. If the pupils realising this they will panic book as soon as possible, so the waiting time can easily go up to half year or even more.

Instructors and examiners should solve this huge problem together!

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The provision of driving tests is a matter for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, and not the Government or Parliament.

We have published a petition calling on the Government to allow certain learner drivers to drive unsupervised for a limited period, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/308523
