Require insurers to recognise Covid-19 and compensate for business interruption
The government must enforce insurers to recognise Covid-19 and provide compensation for business interruption where any such policy is in place; regardless of a policy’s specific wording or exclusions which insurers are relying on to deny all claims. The insurance companies must be held accountable.
Most businesses affected by Covid-19, have discovered that although they paid a higher premium for ‘business interruption insurance’, most insurers are using every attempt to deny/exclude any cover relating to Covid and subsequent closures.
Just some of the examples of excuses used are:
• Covid is a virus not a disease;
• Even if it were a disease it would need to manifest within the business itself;
• Closure to all businesses by the government is not included ...

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The decision to pay out under a policy is one for individual insurance companies, not the UK Government or Parliament.
If you are unhappy with the decision of your insurer you should complain directly to them.
If you are unsatisfied with how an insurer responds to your complaint you may wish to contact the financial ombudsman: www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/businesses/complaints-deal/insurance
