Petition Action

People that ignore Government advice should be made to volunteer at hospitals.

Petition Details

Harsher punishment for the ones that are choosing to go against Government advice. Make them volunteer on the wards with COVID-19 patients by bringing drinks to the staff, helping the janitors clean, or face jail time. The virus is not a joke and neither should the punishment for the selfish, be.

Additional Information

There are still alot of people ignoring the lockdown and social distancing. As we the people know very well, fines do not put these people off and they do not respect the police, let alone others around them. We have seen and heard people voice that they dont care if they spread the virus and will not stay home, we have seen people say they will deliberately spread the virus if they have it. Alot of these people have said the fine doesnt bother them, they'll just pay it and carry on.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about sentencing, including whether to require community service, are a matter for the judiciary, and not the Government or Parliament.

You could call on the Government to make imprisonment an option for all new offences linked to coronavirus, with a view to giving the courts more opportunities to sentence offenders to community service.
