Petition Action

Open outside spaces for people without gardens to safely attend during lockdown.

Petition Details

The internet is filled with photos of people enjoying the sun in their own back gardens - but that's not the reality for lots of people. Consider what this does to our health, physical and mental. A short trip to the shop, or pharmacy, or a jog or walk near home - is not the same as "being outside".

Additional Information

We're all doing our bit to stay safe and stop the spread of COVID-19, which is the right thing to do. But, people without gardens are going to suffer a lot more in adapting to the new rules. Especially those with children. So, if this is potentially going to be our Spring (and maybe Summer) please find a way for people who don't have gardens to enjoy the outside world. Safely.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you want the Government to make sure outside spaces are available to the public during the coronavirus outbreak, but it's not clear what action you want the Government to take to achieve this.

The management of public parks is a matter for individual local authorities, but the Governemnt has sad that parks will remain open for individuals to exercise once a day, and has published guidance on access to green spaces: www.gov.uk/government/news/coronavirus-guidance-on-access-to-green-spaces

If there is a specific action that you would like the Government to take on this issue, then you could start a new petition stating clearly what you want the Government to do.
