Petition Action

Pay student nurses for hours worked throughout the covid-19 crisis.

Petition Details

Student nurses are working along side current & returning staff facing the same risks to their health due to covid-19. These students should be financially compensated for the hours worked during this unpresedented time and, if possible, for all hours worked in hospitals throughout their placement.

Additional Information

Student nurses should be financially compensated for the hours worked during a placement or given an appropriate salary (similar to scheme for trainee teachers) based on their intended area of work and demand for those roles within the NHS.

For the current covid-19 crisis, student nurses should be paid equivalent hourly wage for a trained nurse and all tuition fees refunded for the duration of the outbreak.

Abolishment of the yearly fee paid to practice their role within the NHS.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Student placements are a matter for the educational institutions the student is enrolled in, the organisation sponsoring the placement, and the regulatory bodies that are responsible for the qualifications, not the Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about continuing with a placement you should raise these with the educational institution you are enrolled in, the organisation sponsoring your placement, and the relevant regulatory body.
