Petition Action

Changing the insurance system

Petition Details

change to insurance system so, that we insurance a car and not insure a individual person to a car just like other countries do.

Additional Information

In the UK know that, vehicle insurance causes a really big dent to the residents of the country. Especially in London where i am located. I am requesting to change the insurance system where we insure individual people to a car, to where we insure the car only. This would enable many people drive a motor vehicle without paying a surcharge. People especially under the age of 25 pays over £2000 for a car worth £4000 and has a cylinder capacity of 1000cc and a total output of 50 horsepower.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand that you want the Government to change how cars are insured in the UK, but it's not clear exactly what you want the Government to do, or that the changes you appear to be requesting would have the result you want.

In the UK it is a legal requirement that a person must have motor insurance in order to drive a motor vehicle. The terms of any particular insurance policy are a matter for individual insurers, and not the Government or Parliament.

You could start a petition calling on the Government to change the current requirements for car insurance, so that insurance providers can offer policies that cover cars, not named individuals, but decisions about offering these policies, and their price, would be a matter for individual insurers.
