'No recourse to public funds’ migrant status suspension during COVID-19 crisis
To temporarily waive the NRPF status so that those of that particular migrant status can access provisions to help them financially during the COVID-19 crisis. The government should also provide more help and guidance to local government to assist this portion of our communities.
Those with leave to remain with NRPF condition cannot currently access all of the government’s measures to protect families. For example, a self-employed migrant with leave to remain with NRPF is not currently able to claim Universal Credit, even if they have paid into the tax system for years. Those who cannot work or claim public funds will have no money for the duration of this crisis, leaving them unable to pay the bills, buy food or pay the rent, increasing the risk of destitution.
