Petition Action

Introduce a 'No Detriment Policy' to all UK Universities for this academic term.

Petition Details

Introducing a No Detriment Policy to all Universities would ensure that no student is affected by circumstances at home due to COVID-19.

It would ensure that students cannot fall below their current average grade, if assessments come back at a grade that is lower than their average currently.

Additional Information

University students have been asked to complete the rest of their academic assessments for this term from home.

From home, students simply cannot complete assessments to the same standard, as students may not have access to internet, a computer or resources and may struggle to concentrate in their homes with increased noise during this time.

A No Detriment Policy would allow students to focus on completing assessments without worrying about the effect that COVID-19 may have on their grades.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university teaching, assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, and decisions about university admissions are a matter for individual universities and UCAS, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about admissions you should raise these with UCAS, and if you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
