Bring UK COVID-19 PPE guidelines in line with WHO Recommendations
We ask the Government to instruct the UK Public Health bodies urgently to review their guidelines for healthcare professions with regard to PPE when caring for potential or confirmed COVID-19 patients. At present the guidelines to not meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the WHO.
WHO guidelines are followed by the US CDC as well as the Canadian, Australian and New Zealand Departments of Health. At present the UK does not follow these guidelines and the PPE advised by UK Public Health bodies does not provide as high a level of protection as that recommended by the WHO. For example, PHE advises the use of disposable aprons for non-AGP. The WHO and above organisations all advise full long-sleeve disposable gowns in such circumstances.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Advice on the use of personal protective equipment is a matter for Public Health England, not the Government or Parliament.
We have published a petition calling on the Government to provide adequate PPE equipment for medical professionals working with COVID-19, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/304243
