Petition Action

Reserve home deliveries from major supermarkets for vulnerable groups.

Petition Details

Require supermarkets to ask people to confirm that they are in a vulnerable group in the same way people have to confirm they are over 18. Put out public messages saying that people should only use delivery and click and collect if they are in a vulnerable group.

Additional Information

People in vulnerable groups are at increased risk, may not be able to queue and may not be getting enough help from their communities. It is necessary to prioritise during the coronavirus crisis.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The arrangements for online supermarket services are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to prioritise elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your preferred supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.

The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation

We have published a petition calling on the Government to encourage retailers to prioritise those over 70 shopping online for essentials, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/301126

We have also published a petition calling on the Government to issue care packages to the elderly and vulnerable, which you might like to sign: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/302190
