Petition Action

Universities should cancel all assignments and deadlines during COVID19

Petition Details

The government should cancel all assignment and deadlines as students are unable to concentrate due to the panic of the Coronavirus. Universities have been shut which means less face to face contact, resources and libraries. Students have not received the full teaching experience for semester 2

Additional Information

This should be done as students who cannot work from home due to dysfunctional families, lack of resources such as laptops and due to people being out of work how can they sustain bills and themselves during this pandemic. Students are now stressed and do not have proper guidance and help with these assignments and are forced to carry on regardless of what is going on globally. Online classes are not enough. Majority of students work better in the university environment and not at home. Grades will be affected. Something needs to be done ASAP

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university teaching, assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, and decisions about university admissions are a matter for individual universities and UCAS, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about admissions you should raise these with UCAS, and if you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
