repeal the Computer Misuse Act
The Computer Misuse Act was brought in as a "knee jerk" reaction after both the Court of Appeal (Lord Justice Lane) and the House of Lords (Lord David Brennan) declared that NO criminal offence is committed by the art of hacking (including hacking into Prince Phillip's mailbox).
Recently we've had a string of Extraditions, Inquiries and Prosecutions, revolving around this newly created "crime" of hacking.
The Act (especially Section 1) has the effect of passing that responsibility to the user (e.g. surfer); and hence stifling the security industry. This is no formula for progress.
Information obtained through hacking can be of tremendous public interest (and it's not illegal to sell that information on). - Competition between hackers and defenders will create progress.
