Petition Action

For UK currency to be made using recycled materials

Additional Information

In 2010 over 49 million pound coins alone were created and over 200 million £5 notes were printed.
These coins were made using tonnes of copper, zinc, nickel and brass. The notes were made using thousands of tonnes of paper.
By using recylced metals to make new coins and recycled or sustainably sourced paper to produce new bank notes, instead of gathering the materials from new sources the damage to the environment is reduced and it will reduce the need to burn old bank notes and expensively import the minerals needed to create new coins.
