Climate Driven Flexible Working Reforms
We should promote CO2 reduction caused by unnecessary commuter miles by capitalising on communications technologies. Businesses save on office costs and lost productivity though congestion and public transport delays and employees gain better work-life balance and less stress.
The current provision for allowing employees to request working from home is laid out in the Flexible Working legislation. The emphasis is currently placed on employees to request this, it is then discussed with and ultimately authorised by the employer. We should explore ways to place this emphasis back on employers to demonstrate that an employee working away from an office is problematic for the business rather than the employee having to request and then demonstrate that it isn’t.
