Advise UK public to wear face masks while out & with others, during a pandemic.
Issue guidance to use face masks with current hand washing and social distancing, while the virus is present in UK. Provide advice that even homemade masks when out, in shops, with others or travelling on public transport will help slow the spread of the virus across the community during pandemic.
Current WHO (World Health Organisation) advice is based on studies mainly over 10 years ago and not on a community level.
They say masks are helpful when people have symptoms, are in frontline and when caring for someone vulnerable.
We know this virus is transmitted even before people show symptoms, so masks will help. Even home/hand made masks will help.
This 1/2 hour video explains the evidence around wearing face masks. https://youtu.be/BoDwXwZXsDI
