Petition Action

Remove COVID restriction on retail fruit and vegetable plants and seeds.

Petition Details

Change the current restrictions due to COVID-19 to allow nurseries and other retailers to sell products which will become food, essential to our future food security, making Britain more self-sustaining. Growing food is a healthy activity which people can do distanced from others.

Additional Information

Many nurseries and garden centres are losing all income at the moment; their assets are plants which are perishable.
People working in growing food will be sick, or socially-isolated, leading to food shortages of some food. Increased prices, while income reducing.
Growing plants, especially trees tackles the climate emergency. Fruit trees are beautiful, with time they capture more carbon and give more fruit.
Gardening is a healthy activity you can do while keeping social distance.
