A monthly tax on all working age people & a tax on foreign visitors, for the NHS
Implement a new monthly tax (the "Nightingale Tax") on all working age adults in the UK (citizens and residents) and a per entry tax on all foreign visitors to the UK (business & recreational tourism). All proceeds are 100% dedicated to the NHS.
The NHS is woefully under-funded.
The new tax that would be 100% dedicated to the NHS & help bridge the funding gap. The tax would be in addition to existing contributions.
Based on statistics online, the number of people residing in the UK in 2019 between the ages of 15-64 was 41m. A tax of £10 pppm would raise ~£5b a year. The approx number of visitors to the UK was 37.5m. An entry tax pp would raise ~£375m a year. The joint total raised would be ~£5.375b a year for the NHS.
