Allow self-employed who submit 19/20 tax returns to qualify for government help

Petition Details

The Chancellor announced help to support the self-employed who's work was adversely affected by the COVID-19 Virus. People who became self-employed after 2018/19 Tax Returns (or who have submitted 2018/19 Tax Returns but self-employed earnings are less than half) don't qualify for any help.

Additional Information

This petition requests that the government changes the cut-off period to include 2019/20 Tax Returns which can be submitted from 6th April 2020. This would benefit many people who are, through no fault of their own, are unable to work and may have fallen through the cracks. By making this small amendment many will receive help at a difficult time and it will allow small businesses, freelancers and sole traders to survive beyond the current crisis.
