Petition Action

All universities within the United Kingdom to apply the 'no detriment policy'

Petition Details

A 'no detriment policy' acts as a safety net to ensure students obtain at least their average grade so far in the year, or with a better grade depending on results in summer exams or assignments, so long as they secure at least 40 per cent.

Additional Information

Students want to be sure they are performing at their very best. With prior strikes and the current global pandemic, it is almost impossible for teachers to expect students will have full focus on upcoming deadlines.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, not the UK Government or Parliament. The Office for Students has published guidance for providers about quality and standards during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which sets out its expectations regarding teaching and assessments.

If you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
