Stop ALL pet shops selling cages below minimum size requirements
The minimum size requirement for hamsters and mice is 80cm x 50cm. Pet shops sell cages that are much smaller and advice you to buy them. This needs to stop as it is against the animal welfare act of a suitable environment.
It's unfair on animals to be in a cage or enclosure that is too small. It causes stress and sometimes death of the animal.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Minimum enclosure size requirements vary from animal to animal, and for mice and hamsters the minimum cage size is 25cm by 25cm: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/880219/selling-animals-as-pets.pdf
If you want the Government to increase the minimum enclose size for pets, including hamsters, you could start a new petition requesting this. If you want the Government to make it illegal for pet shops to advertise cages for use for particular animals, where they do not meet the minimum enclosure size requirements for these animals, you could start a new petition requesting this.
