Petition Action

Give all final year students a choice of repeating their year without fees.

Petition Details

Allow ALL final year university students to choose whether they are willing to repeat their third year at university without asking them to pay tuition fees.

Additional Information

Due to the strikes that occurred and the unforeseeable events of Covid-19, most final year students did not cover more than half the material they were suppose to. In addition to that, they are suffering with anxiety due to the uncertainty as to what will happen with their “exam alternatives” and whether their qualification will be penalised due to the lack of material taught. Furthermore, the year was paid in full even though no teaching was done during the third term.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university courses are a matter for individual universities, not the UK Government or Parliament. The Office for Students has published guidance for providers about quality and standards during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which sets out its expectations regarding teaching and assessments: www.officeforstudents.org.uk/publications/guidance-for-providers-about-quality-and-standards-during-coronavirus-pandemic/

If you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
