Petition Action

Create a comprehensive ban on gambling advertising

Petition Details

Tobacco ads were banned in 2002 - to help support addiction recovery and prevent addiction in young people.

4.5m 16+ vulnerable gamblers

1.5m 11-16-year-olds gamble

9% of all online ad spend.
17 Premiership partnerships.
26 of top 44 English Football clubs have a betting shirt sponsor.

Additional Information

It is estimated that 1.05m Disability-Adjusted Life Years are lost in Great Britain by adult vulnerable gamblers (exc. <16s & family) every year. The justification for treatments to manage harm in adult gamblers in the NHS could be 2-3 times higher than the total gross gambling yield excluding lotteries.

Tracey Crouch resigned in 2018 over concerns about the gambling crisis and cited 2 people tragically take their lives every day (730 per year - 30% of all 20-49 suicides)

Not small numbers!
