Government to establish an authoritative independent fact-checking organisation
The determination of the veracity and correctness of the factual statements in the text needs to be supported and well-funded. This detailed work would address verifiable facts leaving space for views clear expressed as opinions.
Many fact-checking bodies come from established European news organisations. However, as recent conspiracy theories show there needs to be immediate corrective action to address misleading and dangerous falsehoods. An informed electorate is a key part of a functioning democracy. Social media propagates information with speed and volume like never before. The foundations of our democracy need reinforcement.
