The Government consider the group award of the George Cross to the NHS.
A precedent set by the award of this honour to the island of Malta and the RUC.
Whist the United Kingdom currently shows its appreciation of the NHS workforce by applauding their efforts each Thursday. The recognition of the services heroism, commitment and compassion would, I believe be better served by a more permanent acknowledgement of their bravery in the face of an invisible enemy. Such an award would also acknowledge the selflessness of the thousands of retired employees and volunteers who have “signed up” to support the individuals who make up our NHS in their battle to keep the nation safe.
