Keep schools closed in line with lockdown measures.
Keeps schools closed as part of the lockdown measures until daily new cases of Covid-19 are steadily under 100 per day or at least in very low hundreds and mass diagnostic tests are carried out in the community to identify cases, trace contacts, isolate even without symptoms and treat.
Opening schools too early will contribute to further increase in spread of the virus not just through inter household mixing of children at school but also through increasing mixing of adults during school drop off and pick up times. In case of secondary schools and colleges it will also make public transport, like buses and trains, much busier therefore less likely for people to stick to social distancing measures. It will aldo put at a severe disadvantage children with health conditions or from households with adults from at risk group, who will have to carry on self isolating.
