Make furloughing employees mandatory
Many people are falling through the gap and have lost their income as their jobs are not being furloughed. It should be illegal for a business not to offer furloughing to those who are eligible for the covid retention scheme.
I have been told by my employer that I will not be furloughed despite me being entitled to it, losing the entirety of my income, and I believe there are others who will be in the same position. As the government have put the responsibility of claiming the retention funds on the employer they should have the legal obligation to provide that funding to those employees who are eligible.
