Petition Action

Revoke ALL laws created as a result of COVID-19 when the emergency is over.

Petition Details

As the current Acts of Parliament that are in place imposing the lockdown across the UK were created as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we won’t need them in place when the national emergency is considered ended.

Additional Information

It is evident that the current parliamentary acts in place are allowing the police in this country to overstep the mark with regards to public control. The people of this country are and must remain free in a democratic society which we must return to once the threat to our health service is lowered to satisfactory levels. The people of the United Kingdom must not be subject to drastic emergency powers permanently. As proven, parliament can create ad-hoc legislation as and when required.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Coronavirus Act 2020, which grants the Government emergency powers in response to the pandemic, is already required to be reviewed by Parliament every 6 months. MPs and members of the House of Lords will be asked to vote on whether they think the Act should continue to apply. If they feel the crisis has eased and that the Act is no longer required, they can vote for the Act to expire.

Ultimately, most of the Act will stop having effect two years after it passed, meaning March 2022.

You could start a petition calling on Parliament to vote to allow the Act to expire at its next review (around September/October 2020) if that is what you wish to happen.
