Petition Action

Require Universities to waive exams and assignments for students amidst COVID 19

Petition Details

The government needs to step in and instruct Universities to provide adequate support and understanding to students during this time of need by providing more than 8 weeks extensions on assignments and cancel exams whilst using other alternative methods to asses students.

Additional Information

These unforeseen circumstances caused by COVID 19 have heavily affected students and this will be difficult for students to produce the best quality of work due to lack of support, anxiety, depression, mental health issues and other various reasons. We urge the Parliament to demand Universities to reassure students and take action to the concerns raised above.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about university teaching, assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful:
