Create a new "NHS Day" bank holiday in honour of our National Health Service
The bravery, care, and dedication of NHS staff is evident every single day, and should be celebrated every year, not just in times of crisis.
Create an annual, non-working holiday to recognise this and ensure that future generations celebrate the importance of a universal, free, publicly-owned NHS.
The UK has only eight national holidays a year, compared to other major economies:
France, Poland - 11
Italy - 12
Russia - 13
Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey - 14
Japan, South Korea - 16
India - 18
UK bank holidays are also not officially "non-working", so employees are not entitled to higher rates of pay.
This can be easily rectified, and the NHS and its staff deserve the recognition of a national day of celebration.
