Petition Action

Change 2020 UK School Summer Term to May 25 - August 7 in response to COVID-19.

Petition Details

Due to COVID-19 closure, we face a combination of unsatisfying situations:
1. Limitation of education quality in front of screens.
2. School fees dispute between parents and independent schools.
3. Most schools do not have remote teaching infrastructure.
4. No fair solution to GCSE or A-Level.

Additional Information

By changing the date of summer term 2020, we can
1. Allow the majority of schools who do not have remote teaching infrastructure to deliver proper education.
2. Avoid unfair exam results of GCSE and A-Level by delaying the exams from May to July instead of taking mock or predicted grades.
3. Eliminate school fees dispute.
4. Delivery better teaching in Art, Music, Sports, and subjects that cannot be taught to the same quality remotely.
5. Fair for parents, teachers, students, and schools.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The setting of term dates is a matter for local authorities in most cases and individual schools in others, not the UK Government or Parliament.
