Repeal the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act 2011 (FTPA)
Either:
a) Expedite the passage of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 (Repeal) Bill [HL], introduced by Lord Mancroft, through both houses of parliament, or
b) Create a new bill, which repeals the FTPA and restores the royal prerogative of dissolution, and oversee its passage into law.
The Conservative Party Manifesto (2019) said: "We will get rid of he Fixed-Term Parliaments Act - It has led to paralysis at a time when we needed decisive action."
The Labour Party Manifesto (2019) said: "A Labour government will repeal the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011, which has stifled democracy and propped up weak governments."
Both of the major parties support this idea, but neither are willing to put in the hard work. The act has led to gridlock in parliament which must be stopped.
