Use the inevitable stimulus spending after COVID-19 to boost green initiatives
The pandemic is causing a recession- recessions usually result in stimulus spending in order to boost the economy. Good or bad, this is likely inevitable, so I would like the government to prioritise green initiatives like renewable power, green building techniques, promoting plant-based diets etc.
The climate crisis has not gone away, but what this current pandemic shows us is the huge cost of delaying action when experts are all but unanimous in advocating it. We need to use this crisis to avert an even larger one which is already underway, we need to use it to position the UK as a leader in sustainable living and innovation. The chance is unprecedented, we can use tragedy to mitigate the consequences of the damage we have already done and minimise further damage we will do.
