Petition Action

Do not restrict the movement of the over 70's when lockdown is relaxed.

Petition Details

Not to discriminate on the grounds of age against those people over 70. Many of these people are fit and healthy and make a contribution to society. Allow them to decide after hearing sound advice.

Additional Information

Parliament must understand that 70 is NOT old. People of this age have the right to enjoy social interaction and travel whilst they can. There are people under 70 who are unfit and unhealthy, will they be considered for continued lockdown?

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The NHS, not the Government or House of Commons, is responsible for determining who is at a higher risk from coronavirus. The NHS has stated that people who are 70 or older are at moderate risk, and clinically vulnerable: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/people-at-higher-risk-from-coronavirus/whos-at-higher-risk-from-coronavirus/

The Government’s advice on social distancing advises people who are clinically vulnerable to take extra precautions, but there are no regulations or laws that apply to 70 year olds differently to other age groups.
