Recognise service by key workers during the COVID-19 crisis by making an award.
Consider how best to recognise the contribution by key workers during the COVID-19 crisis. Intention would be to make an award when the crisis has ended, of a certificate, medallion or medal (perhaps adapting eligibility criteria from that for the 1939-45 Defence Medal).
In the past, recognition has been poorly thought out or only considered decades after the related service given eg Arctic Star only instituted in 2013 for WW2 service, WLA and WTC Veterans badge only instituted in 2007 for WW1 or WW2 service.
The country is at war with COVID-19 and the toll has been and will remain very high.
The people are highly grateful for the service by key workers; the Government should be too, and deeds as well as words are required.
