Award the George Cross to the NHS for its heroic covid-19 pandemic response.
For HM Government to ask Her Majesty the Queen and the George Cross Committee to award the George Cross to the National Health Service to recognise the bravery & heroic efforts of its staff during the covid-19 pandemic.
In 1942 the island of Malta was awarded the GC. King George VI wrote, “To honour her brave people I award the George Cross to the Island Fortress of Malta to bear witness to a heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history”. The direct comparison to today's NHS is obvious. An award of this magnitude would go some way to show the staff of the NHS the collective thanks of the nation for their bravery everyday in working for the good of us all throughout this emergency.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We cannot accept petitions that call for specific awards or honours, such as the George Cross, to be given to individuals or organisations, because we can only accept petitions about matters for which the Government or Parliament are responsible for.
There is an independent process for considering nominations for awards and honours, including the George Cross, and advising the Queen on granting these, so it is not something the Government or Parliament can do.
