COVID-19 economic rescue plans must be green
Coronavirus and climate change are the biggest challenges facing a generation.
Emergency financing must be used to build a sustainable economy which supports our health and wellbeing and drives growth, providing new jobs and opportunities across the UK for our generation and those of the future.
In 2019, Parliament declared a climate change emergency.
The government committed to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, pledging investment in clean energy solutions and green infrastructure and forecasting that the low carbon economy ‘could grow 11 per cent per year between 2015 and 2030, four times faster than the projected growth of the economy as a whole’.
The government must invest emergency funds in green and reproductive sectors including health, social care and public services.
