Amend the self-employment income support scheme and make it fair for all.
The Government should amend the COVID19 self-employment income support scheme, specifically the points pertaining to timing of self-employment registration to include all self-employed people; and the £50,000 profit cap; both of which unfairly leave thousands of people ineligible for a grant.
The current COVID19 self-employment income support scheme places two specific conditions on who can claim, leaving thousands ineligible. These conditions prohibit the newly self-employed and those with profits over £50,000 from claiming a grant. This is unfair and discriminatory, and means that many tax-paying, self-employed people are unsupported during this crisis, with little or no work. A fair scheme that supports all self-employed people - as per the PAYE furlough scheme - is required.
