Create a new honour for community volunteers during the Coronavirus pandemic
Create a new award - granted by the government and the Crown through nominations - to celebrate and recognise those individuals and groups who have been organising in their communities to support those in need during the Coronavirus pandemic. Their contribution has been outstanding.
In my own community - as in many others - a local hall is a now a community hub, organised and manned by volunteers. This has included prescription collection and delivery, shopping deliveries (particularly during the panic buying phase), and has been a central point for grocery donations from local businesses. The team have worked non-stop to support those in need, and their actions have certainly limited illness and spread, as well as eased worry amongst the vulnerable. This needs recognition.
