Petition Action

Extend the period that Notices of Marriage are valid by 1 year.

Petition Details

We would like to see an extension for Notices of Marriage granted by 1-year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will enable couples that needed to postpone their marriages to choose a different date within 2-years of their original application without having to pay again to ‘give notice’.

Additional Information

Through no fault of their own, many couples have ended up postponing or cancelling their weddings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The loss of deposits and monies paid for services booked is a real concern to these couples. To then have to pay an additional fee to ‘give notice’ once again adds an unnecessary financial burden that the Government has within its power to waive.
