That audio surveillance by local authorities should be outlawed.
A public car park in Reading has a notice stating that visual and audio surveillance of the public, both overt and covert (open and secret), is in place for the safety and security of persons and property, and taxis in Oxford are going to be fitted with surveillance equipment to record the private conversations of passengers. Private conversations between ordinary members of the public going about their lawful business should not be subject to eavesdropping by local councils or security firms acting on their behalf. This should be outlawed.
