Strong cider prices sold at almost similar prices to spirits, if HMG introduces minimum price per unit of alcohol. Cider will be priced out of market!
If HMG introduces minimum price of 40p per unit of alcohol, 2 litres of strong cider will cost £6, a half bottle (35cl) of whisky £5.60 but bottle of wine £3.60. Who will make the huge profits on selling cider? HMG or the cider industry? This would result in higher profits for distillers, breweries, pubs and off licences, unless HMG tax each unit at a fixed amount (say £0.25).
