To award the George Cross to the N.H.S (National Health Service)
To debate the award of the George Cross to the National Health Service for the selfless efforts of its members undertaken during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020.
George VI's citation for the Island of Malta read:
'To honour her brave people I award the George Cross to the Island Fortress of Malta to bear witness to a heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history.'
The N.H.S has been at the forefront of the present Covid-19 crisis. Workers in the health service have put their personal safety aside, in order to provide life saving treatment to those suffering from this illness.
The precedent for an award to an entity, exists in the award of the George Cross to the Island of Malta during WWII. While exact comparisons between the two are not perhaps necessary, a key aspects is indisputable, in that people of both institutions have given their lives for a greater and just cause.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We cannot accept petitions that call for specific awards or honours, such as the George Cross, to be given to individuals or organisations, because we can only accept petitions about matters for which the Government or Parliament are responsible for.
There is an independent process for considering nominations for awards and honours, including the George Cross, and advising the Queen on granting these, so it is not something the Government or Parliament can do.
