Ensure families of non-NHS essential workers who die of COVID19 are compensated
Extend the government’s £60,000 life assurance payout, which they have said would be provided to the families of NHS staff who have died of COVID-19, and make families of bus drivers, care assistants and shop workers who contract the illness at work also eligible.
NHS workers’ families are set to receive £60,000 payout if their loved one has died of COVID 19. However this has not been extended to the families of transport workers (for example the families of the 10 London bus drivers who have already died of COVID19) or other essential workers, such as care workers or shop assistants, who die of the disease. This group of workers are typically less well paid than NHS staff but their families still need to be cared for and their sacrifices honoured.
