Petition HM The Queen to award the George Cross to the NHS
In meeting the Covid-19 pandemic face on, the doctors, nurses and all the staff of the NHS have been in the front line and have, on every day, displayed acts of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme danger to themselves, showing complete disregard for their own safety.
The Covid-19 virus pandemic has faced the health professionals of the United Kingdom with the most dangerous situation experienced in a century. In doing their duty on a daily basis without question, ministering with the utmost compassion to the sick and the dying, all the members of the NHS have more than met the criteria for the award of the George Cross. As a national institution, there could be no more worthy a recipient of this signal national recognition than the NHS as a whole.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We cannot accept petitions that call for specific awards or honours, such as the George Cross, to be given to individuals or organisations, because we can only accept petitions about matters for which the Government or Parliament are responsible for.
There is an independent process for considering nominations for awards and honours, including the George Cross, and advising the Queen on granting these, so it is not something the Government or Parliament can do.
Information about Civilian gallantry is available here: www.gov.uk/guidance/civilian-gallantry-operation#the-george-cross-committee
And details of how to nominate someone for an honour or award are available here: www.gov.uk/honours/recommend-bravery-award
