Release students from accommodation contracts if they moved out due to COVID-19.
Students are expected to continue with accommodation rent payments despite having to return home. Upon signing our contracts with student accommodation we were unaware of the current circumstances. It is categorically unfair and greedy to charge us for rent while universities are closed.
Students use student accommodation for living within a convenient distance from their university, but what do they have to say for themselves when all of the universities have been closed?
Contract or not, student accommodation companies must realise that their cancellation policies DO NOT cover scenarios such as the unforeseen pandemic. We want the government to enact a COVID-19 break clause on all student accommodations.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Suspending payments for rent or ending a tenancy early is a matter for individual landlords, and not the UK Government or Parliament.
The Government has published an FAQ for university students on Covid-19, which includes advice on accommodation costs: dfemedia.blog.gov.uk/2020/04/09/university-students-covid19-faq/
