The Reform of Mental Health Services
•Instant support to individuals threatening suicide
•Police - Retraining
•Crisis teams dispatched to suicidal individuals
•Safe buildings
•Access to a support worker
•Psychiatric evaluation to receive medication offered instantly.
•Non-urgent waiting times and responses maximum 1 week
The NHS website states ‘consultant-led mental health services are covered by the NHS 18-week maximum waiting time.’ Following some research, statistics show that suicide rates in the UK are at an all time high with a rise of 11.8% in 19 years, with young people (aged between 10 and 24) adding the most to this figure. It is thought that with the current pandemic, the suicide numbers are set to increase. I personally have experienced the lack of resources offered by the NHS and it needs to change.
