That the UK Government seek an extension to the Brexit Transitional Period.
The deadline for requesting an extension is 30 June. The Covid 19 Emergency has prevented any meaningful negotiations since the UK formally left the EU on 31 January. There is little likelihood of sufficient progress by June for there to be confidence that an agreement can be reached by 31 Dec.
By 30 June, neither the UK nor the EU will know what condition their Economies will be in at year end. In 2021, both parties need an interim collaborative relationship which will facilitate the recovery of their Industry and commerce. This may be significantly different from the best relationship for the longer term.
The ability of businesses to cope with the additional requirements of preparation for final separation from the EU at the same time as recovery from Covid is questionable.
