Men to be given same maternity leave allowance
Give equal maternity leave to both parents or allow the mothers maternity leave to be shared between parents.
I want the government to recognise that men are as equally important as women in the growth and bonding with their child. I feel it's vitally important that a father is given the same paid maternity leave as the mother or that parents are able to share the leave equally between each other.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It's not clear what action you want the Government to take.
Currently women are entitled to Statutory Maternity Leave and Statutory Maternity Pay, and men are entitled to Paternity leave and Paternity Pay. Couples may also be able to get Share Parental Leave and Shared Parental Pay, where couples can share up to 50 weeks of leave and 37 weeks of pay. You can find out more about different entitlements here:
Maternity pay and leave: www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave
Paternity pay and leave: www.gov.uk/paternity-pay-leave
Shared Parental Leave and Pay: www.gov.uk/shared-parental-leave-and-pay
If you want the Government to make Statutory Paternity Leave and Pay more generous, you might like to sign the following petitions:
